The Anker family home, largely preserved in its original state, with its historic 19th-century studio and flourishing natural garden, makes the Centre Albert Anker both a repository of cultural heritage and a worthwhile destination for a day out.
The collection at the Centre Albert Anker covers several areas: the studio, containing all the objects collected by Anker, painting materials, props and a library of over 1,000 books in German, French, English, Italian, Greek, Hebrew and Latin; the historic apartment with furniture and everyday objects from the 19th and early 20th centuries; in addition, numerous letters, written documents and photographs, which have been deposited at the Burgerbibliothek Bern for conservation reasons. The foundation’s collection also includes around 900 sketches, designs, drawings, watercolours and oil studies by Anker, as well as several works by artist friends.
